AbstractThe purpose of this thesis is to study the effect of various parameters of tandem cold rollingmills consist of steel plate and process factors as input parameters and yield strength asoutput using artificial neural networks Neural network is a mathematical method that is able to find a relationship between a set ofinputs an input vector and a set of outputs an output vector an operation called vectormapping The multi layer perceptron based on back propagation paradigm that is the most commonneural network is used in this project All required data received from MOBARAKE steel co cold rolling mill in key log forms A MATLAB programming based on back propagation is prepared and trained by a set of datafrom various grades of steels and then tested by another set The prediction errors achieved from real measured output were within 3 that is anacceptable result in compared with other same works By studying the response of MLP to omit some of input parameters it was possible to drawconclusions of the main effective factors in yield strength It was observed that some processparameters have more sufficient information to predict yield strength A sensitivity analysis on the variations of input variables showed that the response of MLP onthe variation of one variable may depend on the value of the other variables The considerable point in this developed model against the other mathematical models is theability of modeling interaction between continuous stands and its effects on output Finally a non linear function that describes the relation between 14 input parameters consistof the number of stand entrance and exit thicknesses for each stand entrance and exitvelocities for each stand screw down inter stand tension reduction friction factor rolldiameter and flattened roll diameter rolling force and rolling torque and output parameter yield strength was achieved
