AbstractTube hydro forming process is a relatively complex manufacturing process Performanceof this process depends on various factors and requires careful study of part design material selection loading path and boundary conditions Due to the complex nature ofthe process forming conditions are mostly simulated and optimized by explicit finiteelement codes Usually in T H F processes pressure is applied internally and outward expansion takesplace T H F with outer pressure is rarely used because of its intrinsic complexities Inthis study a THF process with outer pressure is optimized by an explicit FEM code andsimulation results were in good agreement with the experimental observations In thiswork effects of friction are investigated in more detail The lack of the knowledgepertaining to tribology of THF process has hindered optimal utilization of this technologyin the manufacturing of complex parts despite the enormous advantages light weightstructures part consolidation etc this technology offers over conventional stamping andwelding operations It is therefore necessary to investigate the tribological phenomena inTHF and accordingly develop lubrication systems to enhance tribological performance In this study a useful method for evaluation of lubricants is suggested
