AbstractWhen waves propagate from deep water to shallow water wave height affected by sea events likerefraction difraction reflection and breaking problems begins to change In order to investigate thepropagation of waves in coastal shallow water and effects of diffraction and refraction together withreflection problems on wave height elliptic mild slope equations have been modeled In this model finitedifference approximations have been applied in the solution of governing equations with use of GaussSeidel method Model predictions are compared with the measurments of elliptic shoal exoerimentconducted by Berkhoff and breakwater model in MIKE 21 software Energy dissipation by friction andbreaking are assumed to be negligible The results show that there are differences between modelpredictions and experimental results in very shallow water regions Non linear wave equations solve thisproblem The agreement between the model prediction and breakwater model is highly encouraged
