Abstract Two mechanisms that can damage to structures and its contents are drifts andaccelerations Seismic designs intend to reduce these two agents so that reduce damages ofearthquake Base isolation in structures can reduce both acceleration and drift Thereforeuse of seismic isolation enables us to design a safety structure as well as ensuring ofnonstructural components performance At present developed country with seismicallyregions such as United States Japan and New Zealand are pioneers of using of seismicisolation in the world and base isolation in structures have been become a new strategy forrehabilitation Beside this strategy many research fields are created that one of them isdynamic analysis of base isolated structures Nonlinear behavior of base isolation systems and nonclassical damping make dynamicanalysis of base isolated structure complicated and direct integration method as aconventional method is used for dynamic analysis of these systems Primary purpose ofthis thesis is development of a method for dynamic analysis of base isolated structures inwhich both nonlinear behavior and nonclassical damping are simultaneously considered Inthis method nonlinearity is restricted to the base and structure is considered to be elastic atall times The solution algorithm consisting of pseudo force method in which nonlinearforces are considered as external forces therefore achievement to responses need iteration One of the main problems due to iterative method is convergence that in previous studiesno convergence conditions are explained In this study convergence of iterative methodthoroughly is investigated and convergence conditions are extracted and the method ispresented in such way the convergence always become indefeasible Finally comparison ofcomputed results with responses of direct integration method is done for verification Assecondary purpose analytical models of base isolation system are studied For this purposecodes formulation used in order to recognize effect of these formulations
