Abstract Applying production planning and control systems like material requirement planning MRP theory of constraints TOC and Just in time JIT systems in real word because oftheir fully production subsystems involvement that brings some practical complexities need a long time horizon This is especially more sensible at the undeveloped Iranianindustries At this study to facilitate encountering with forthcoming decisions needed forapplying MRP and passing from the traditional production management system to use moreadvanced systems like MRP a decision support system for supporting the decision makerhave been designed With regard to complex structure of production planning problems using this DSS can facilitate decision making and increase their effectiveness This hasbeen done by extracting information and simulating the results of the selected options bydecision maker using the solving models and procedures nested in DSS Applying this DSShas been done for Shahabkhodro a bus producer company where this study has been done show acceptable results By helping this DSS production sequencing and scheduling purchasing and manufacturing orders planning and control creating database managementsystem needed for production planning feasibility study of doing a substitution productionscheduling for maximum usage of available resources can be done better As a result ofapplying this system we can point to the decreasing in human resources needed forhandling the production and planning system the sequential occurring unpredictableproblem like material shortage problem that is a obstacle for production process is obscuredand making completely usage of resource has been possible
