AbstractIn this research oxidation and hot corrosion of Rene80 superalloy and the effect ofcommercial coatings ELCOAT101 and ELCOAT37 was investigated For cyclicoxidation the superalloy with and without coating were tested in resistance furnace in 850and 1050 C and for high temperature hot corrosion test after coating with Na2SO4 thespecimen were tested at 800 850 900 and 950 C Kinetic of reaction was studied withweight change diagrams For microstructure study of oxidation and hot corrosionproducts the SEM EDS and X Ray analyses was employed Results show the cyclicoxidation of Rene80 follow the parabolic oxidation low in both temperature and theoxidation was controlled by growth of TiO2 crystals In 850 C oxidation products wereTiO2 and Cr2O3 and in 1050 C the mainly product was TiO2 and NiCr2O4 spinals asinternal oxidation islands After results analyses a simple model was purposed foroxidation behavior of Rene80 superalloy The more sever of hot corrosion attacks occurin 900C and the specimen was failed after 4 cycles Hot corrosion products of Rene80superalloy were formed in three layers The top layer was the Compact NiO the middlelayer was porous NiO and the sub layer consists of NiO NiS phase The commercialcoatings follow the parabolic oxidation low in 1050 C and the Parabolic constant waslower than Rene80 parabolic constant ElCoat101 had good resistance against oxidationand ELCOAT37 against hot corrosion
