AbstractIn this study Ni SiC composite was produced in nickel sulfamate bath with and withoutsaccharin Structural analysis of samples produced was carried out using scanning electronmicroscope SEM and X ray diffraction pattern XRD Furthermore roughness microhardness and SiC weight fraction were also measured Tribological behavior ofsamples was investigated using Pin on disc machine Corrosion behavior of compositeswas evaluated in 3 5 NaCl solution with Tafel polarization test and finally resultscompared with electroformed pure nickel having poly and nano crystalline structure Results showed that presence of SiC particle 0 1 0 3 and 0 4 1 m increases thehardness value and consequently improves wear resistance of produts Improvement inwear resistance increased with increasing electroforming current density Microhardness ofNi SiC composite decreased with decreasing SiC particle size which is related to the lowerweight fraction of deposited SiC in electroformed Ni SiC composite compared to the purenickel Presence of SiC particles in nickel deposits increases the corrosion potential of Ni SiC composite The increase in corrosion potential of composite containing 0 4 1 m SiCparticles was greater than composite containing 0 1 0 3 m SiC particles Furthermoreresults obtained from Tafel polarization test showed that increasing the electroformingcurrent density would increase the corrosion current density of both nickel and Ni SiCcomposite produced And also decreasing in SiC particle size would decrease thecomposite corrosion current density
