AbstractThe motion of drops suspended in another fluid has a wide variety of practical applicationsin many industrial processes In this thesis the motion of two dimensional deformabledrops suspended in a linear shear flow at finite Reynolds numbers is investigatednumerically in a periodic channel in the absence of gravity force and under the assumptionof immiscible fluids The full Navier Stokes equations are solved by a finitedifference front tracking method and the surface tension is included The elliptic pressureequation is solved by a fast poisson solver FISHPACK when the density of the dropequals with the density of the suspending fluid and is solved by a multigrid solver MUDPACK when the densities are different In this research the governing non dimensional numbers of the flow like bulk Reynolds number particle Reynolds number the Weber number the ratio of the viscosity and areal fraction have been used and resultsare presented using them The effects of different parameters are investigated on the rheological properties of thesuspension The motion of drops is investigated at a high areal fraction and in a wide rangeof Reynolds numbers with different Weber numbers and different viscosity ratios At lastthe effect of density ratios is investigated briefly
