AbstractDue to growing world energy consumption and its environmental effect utilization ofefficient and low emission power production methods and novel systems is one of thepriorities Solid oxide fuel cells are such systems because of their efficient conversion offossil fuels chemical energy into electricity and negligible pollutant emission Furthermore the capabilities of solid oxide fuel cells to integrate with power cycles such as gas turbinecycles propose a hybrid system for future power plants In this thesis a hybrid solid oxidefuel cell and regenerative gas turbine system is considered as a base system Heat recoveryfrom gas turbine exhaust to generate steam and inject it into gas turbine cycle which is awell known technology to increase performance was utilized here to augment theperformance of the base system Electrochemical modeling and assessment of overvoltagesgive the fuel cell total potential Energy and exergy analysis as a power tool to determineperformance of energy systems are utilized to investigate and compare the performance ofthe base and the retrofitted systems Energy analysis expresses the advantages of steaminjection and shows 17 87 and 12 31 increase in output power and efficiencyrespectively Also exergy analysis indicates that steam injection decreases the wastedexergy from the system exhaust and boosts the second law efficiency by 12 11 Performance analysis of the system by taking some parameters as variables shows theadvantages of steam injection
