AbstractTo evaluate salt tolerance of triticale genotypes experiments were conducted as factorialdesign based on a completely randomized design with four replications at germinationstage and hydroponics greenhouse planting At germination stage 41 triticale genotypes Kavir cultivar of bread wheat and Dipper 6 cultivar of durum wheat as salt tolerantgenotypes included as the first factor while the six salinity levels 0 0 5 1 1 5 2 and2 5 percents of NaCl were the second factor In greenhouse experiment four salt toleranttriticale genotypes including Caracal Prego Lasko and Zorro and two salt sensitivegenotypes of Pollmer and Alamos 83 were used base on the result of germinationexperiment while Kavir cultivar of bread wheat and Dipper 6 cultivar of durum wheatwere also used as the first factor total of eight genotypes and four salinity levels 0 0 5 1 and 1 5 percents of NaCl were the second factor Results evaluation of salinitytolerance at germination stage indicated that the increase of salinity levels has lead to asignificant decrease in germination percent the number weight and length of roots ofgerminated seeds and the number and weight of shoot of germinated seeds Also salinitygenotype interaction for the studied traits was highly significant Kavir and Dipper 6 had less salt tolerance compared to triticale genotypes in the germination stage Thegenotypes Caracal Prego Lasko and Zorro had least percentage of traits reduction indifferent salinity levels compared to control treat hence were introduced as salt toleranttriticale genotypes at the germination stage Genotypes Pollmer Alamos 83 and Magnat had higher of traits reduction in different salinity levels compared to control hence were introduced as salt sensitive triticale genotypes at the germination stage Theresults of analysis of variance in greenhouse experiment showed that salinity hadsignificant effect on all evaluated trait of this experiment in such a way it causedsignificant decrease in the number of leaves number of tillers number of roots length ofroots dry weight of shoot dry weight of root ratio of shoot dry weight to root dryweight K concentration in shoot K concentration in root and K Na ratio in shootroot On the other hand salinity caused to an increase in Na concentration in shoot androot the ratio of K in shoot to K in root the ratio Na in shoot to Na in root and theamount of proline in leaves A significant difference was observed among experimentedgenotypes in the sense of reaction to salinity Also salinity genotype interaction wassignificant for the evaluated traits Generally genotypes Lasko Zorro and Alamos 83 were introduced as high salt tolerant genotypes and Kavir and Dipper 6 wereintroduced as medium salt tolerant genotypes Correlation coefficients between the traitswere positive and significant in the germination stage In the greenhouse experiment there was a positive and significant correlation between K concentration in shoot andmorphological traits while Na concentration in shoot and Na concentration in root bothhad negative and significant correlation with morphological traits Generally it can beconcluded that superior triticale genotypes showed higher salinity tolerance compared todurum wheat and bread wheat and also possessed higher production capacity in saltyregions
