AbstractWith the aid of enhancements in steel rolling technology steels strip flatness has beenimproved a lot during recent years However consumer s need to superior flatness is sorestrict that further processing called tension leveling is required to improve flatnessquality Tension leveling is used in steel strip processing lines in order to guarantee aperfectly flat product for particular applications The present study has been initiated with an introduction to leveling processes and theirapplications in various strip processing lines in steel strip industries As the first step toeliminate strip shape defects and produce a perfectly flat strip an assortment of strip shapedefects their sources and typical correction mechanisms as well as different methods usedfor explanation of strip flatness has been introduced afterward in the midst of an overviewon the theory of plasticity and cyclic behavior concerning the response of materialsubjected to tension leveling combined isotropic kinematic hardening modelaccompanying with Mises yield criterion and associated flow rule has been preferred inorder to simulate material behavior in cyclic loading conditions during tension levelingprocess Based on this decision through extraction of constitutive equations andexplanation of theoretical analysis of strip behavior in tension leveling process acomputerized code has been codified in order to simulate strip behavior in the process Inspite of experimental investigations on strip behavior in tension leveling process whichcommonly emphasize on consideration of Bauschinger effect or kinematic hardening inaddition to isotropic hardening as a necessity for exact simulation of material behavior inthe process no analytical solution has been made till now and previous studies in this fieldare restricted to finite element simulations of this process As a result in the current study simulation of strip behavior with an emphasis on combined isotropic kinematic hardeningbehavior and consideration of Bauschinger effect has been made Finally strip behavior intension leveling process has been simulated through use of the computerized code Motivated by this ambition the effect of major parameters in the process including curvature tension and strip mechanical and dimensional characteristics on process outputscounting strip middle fiber elongation residual curvatures internal stresses and materialhardening variables has been studied during the strip travel through work rolls cassette aswell as anti crossbow and anti coilset systems and subsequently optimal performancecircumstances of the tension leveling process has been determined It worth to state that the present study has been defined on Mobarakeh Steel Complex MSCO need to technological knowledge of leveling systems and determination of theiroptimal performance conditions Beyond the access to technical knowledge of levelers investigations and studies in this thesis have led to optimization of the tension levelingprocess as well as elimination of trial and error approach for adjustment of the processparameters in Mobarakeh Steel Complex
