AbstractOne of the most important attributed of soft core spun yarns is the fatigue behavior Thisphenomenon has different effects such as buckling of elastic core part on the fabricsurface and the plastic deformation in from of bagging of made fabric In this research fatigue behavior of cotton covered elastane filament Lycra core yarnsand the produced fabrics by using them as weft under cyclic loads has been assessed Forthese purpose five kinds of core spun yarns with different pre tensions on core part i e 2 9 3 1 3 4 3 6 and 3 9 was produced To implement cyclic loads on the samples anapparatus designed Then the yarns and produced fabric was subjected to 500 1000 and1500 cyclic loads The yarns deformation and displacement of core part was investigatedby evaluating the cross sections of loaded yarns The outer surface of them fiber breakageOf sheath part and structural variations of core spun yarns has been studied by using thephotos taken by SEM The Zwick tensile tester in principle of CRE method was used tomeasure the tensile properties of samples after and before loading More ever the pillingtendency of surface of fabrics direction was studied by using image processing technique Finally finite elements FE technique and ABAQUS software were used to simulate thetensile behavior of yarns after cyclic loads The results showed that the soft core spun yarns with 2 9 and3 9 pre tension core parthave the maximum and minimum breaking strength before and after cyclic loads Thesurvey of cross section of yarns after cyclic load revealed that the strands of core parttend to migrate on the yarn surface and beside it the cotton fiber of sheath part migrate tothe yarn center Investigation of fabric surface showed that the most pilling tendencyoccurs between 500 1000 cyclic loads Moreover the fabric product by using yarns with3 4 and 3 9 pre tensions on core part had the maximum pilling and the fabric producedbut using the yarn with 2 9 pre tension on the core part had the minimum pilling The result of simulating by using ABAQUS software revealed that this descriptive modelcan be used for predicting the characteristics of cotton covered Lycra core yarnseffectively because the simulated tensile curves had a good accuracy with real curve
