AbstractThe purpose of this study was to analyze the factors affecting income distributionamong the farmers of four villages of Marzijaran Hezaveh Mehrabad and Dayenfrom Marzijaran district of Arak township of Markazi province Iran Data werecollected by filling out questionnaires and having interviews with 249 farmers selected by stratified random sampling The data were analyzed using Lourenz curve Gini ratios comparing the income quintiles income ratios and means Pearson andSpearman correlation coefficient Mann Withney test Kruskal Wallis test and logisticregression model The results show that the income inequalities in Marzijaran villagecalculated by the ratios of richest to poured quintiles were larger than Hezave Mehrabad and Dayen The Gini coefficients in Marzijaran Hezave Mehrabad andDayen were calculated as 38 percent 25 percent 35 percent and 29 percent respectively The source of income of the farmers included agricultural activities crops livestock and fruit production and second job Income from agriculturalsources was the most effective factor of income inequalities in which fruit production crops and livestock are of importance respectively In the four villages the mean ageand experience of farmers in the fifth quintile the richest was considerably largerthan the others Logistic regression results indicated that such factors as the number ofchildren lived with their family having non farm occupation agricultural incomepercentage non farm income percentage owning farm land irrigated and gardenlands area and having 26 35 years of experience inhibit the farmers of falling in firstincome quintile On the other hand such factors as Marzijaran residency and the ageof farmers 46 55 years old result in falling in the first income quintile Kruskal Wallis test results show significant difference at 1 percent level in total net income infour villages
