Abstract Drought is a serious problem for agriculture which causes reduction of cropproductivity This study was conducted at Research Farm of Isfahan University ofThechnology to evaluate drought tolerance of 5 triticale cultivars Alamos 83 Lasko Moreno Prego Zoro along with 2 wheat cultivars Roshan Osta Gata Arandomized complete block design with three replications was used in each irrigationtreatment i e irrigation after 70 3 and 130 3 mm evoporation from class A Pan Results of analysis of variance revealed significant differences among cultivars for allstudied traits including day to heading day to flowering day to maturity plant height length internode spike length number of spike per m2 number of grains per spike grains weight per spike 1000 grains weight biological yield grain yield and harvestindex under both environmental conditions The results of combined analysis ofvariance showed that moisture stress had significant effect on all studied traits andreduced them Also the interaction between genotype and environment was significantfor all studied traits The phenotypic and genetic correlation coefficients revealed thatgrain yield had significant and positive correlation with grains weight per spike underboth environments and with number of grains per spike and number of days to headingunder non stress and with harvest index and biological yield under stress conditions The results of stepwise regression under non stress conditions showed that number ofgrains per spike harvest index biological yield and grains weight per spike and undermoisture stress conditions harvest index and biological yield had the highest impact ongrain yield respectively Eliminating biological yield and harvest index from theregression model revealed that number of grains per spike under non stress conditionsand grains weight per spike under moisture stress conditions had the highest impact ongrain yield The results of path analysis on the remaining characters in the regressionmodel for each of the environments showed that grains weight per spike under non stress conditions and harvest index under stress conditions had the highest positivedirect effect on grain yield Also the results of path analysis on the yield componentsshowd that number of grains per spike had the highest positive direct effect on grainyield under both irrigation treatments To evaluate drought tolerance of the studiedcultivars Fischer and Maurer stress susceptibility index SSI Rosille and Hamblintolerance index TOL and mean productivity MP and Fernandez geometric meanproductivity GMP and stress tolerance indices STI were calculated According to theobtained results STI GMP and MP were the most effective indices to identify tolerantgenotypes Accordingly Moreno and Lasko triticale cultivars were found to be themost tolerant cultivars
