AbstractElectromagnetic absorbers are a critical part of electronic systems in applications such aselectromagnetic shielding for air vehicles and wireless communications Alternatively ferrites can be engineered to show enhanced dielectric losses in wide frequency range byappropriate choice of composition M type strontium hexaferrite SrFe9Mn1 5Ti1 5O19 SrFe9Mn1 5Co1 5O19 and SrFe9Co1 5Ti1 5O19 were synthesized by solid state method Thesamples were synthesized from stoichiometric mixtures of Fe2O3 TiO2 Co3O4 SrCO3 andMnCO3 Mixtures were crushed for 6h and sintered in air at 1250 C for 3h The heatingrate of samples was 6 C min Finally the sintered ferrites were crushed again to obtainfine powders with a wide range distribution of particle sizes observed from SEMevaluation The composite specimens were prepared by mixing the strontium ferrite indifferent weight ratios 50 60 70 and 80 in polyvinylchloride Mixture of ferritepowders with polyvinylchloride plasticized and fired at 220 C and 5 5MPa Curing timewas 14min the pressed composites were in the form of cylindrical with thickness of 1 8mm and the diameter of 40mm In order to investigation of corrosion behavior of theprepared composites as a coating on radar targets in the sea water the mixture were coatedon Aluminum substrate with 1 7 1 8 and 1 9 mm thickness via painting The obtainedpowders were characterized by XRD SEM EDS and susceptometer The reflection loss ofthe prepared composites was measured by Vector Network Analyzer The corrosionbehavior of the coating was evaluated by EIS technique The results showed that theparticle size of the two samples had a wide range of distribution and the magnetoplumbitestructure was formed in the samples The composites with 70 ferrite content had shown amaximum reflection loss The wideband of the SrFe9Mn1 5Ti1 5O19 ferrite was 3 GHz withhigher 15 dB reflection loss This result showed that it can be a good candidate forelectromagnetic compatibility and other practical applications at high frequency Thecorrosion resistance of coating was comparable with other sea coatings
