Abstract As global economic competition and cooperation become more and moredrastic the enterprise s facility layout needs to be more flexible to adapt to the rapidlychanging environment Therefore attention should be given to the dynamical natureof the facility layout In other words the flow of materials between departmentschanges during the planning horizon multiple periods and should be considered This problem is known as the dynamic facility layout problem DFLP Therefore theDFLP is the problem of efficiently arranging the departments within a facility duringa multi period planning horizon such that the sum of material handling andrearrangement costs is minimized In general view layout problems are not only dealing with quantitative analysisof material handling costs but also dealing with qualitative information on howdifferent activities can influence on layout problem In this research for planningfacility layout distance based and adjacency based functions were simultaneouslyconsidered and a multi objective dynamic facility layout problem was presented Tosolve the model ideal multi objective optimization procedure has been used In step 1 two classical multi objective optimization procedures namely weighted sum methodand constraint method and also three meta heuristics namely NSGA II DE PSAhave been applied To test the performance of the methods data sets taken from theliterature was used in the analysis The results obtained show that two meta heuristicsNSGA II and DE are more efficient techniques for solving the DFLP than the othermethods In step 2 TOPSIS method has been applied for selection the best solutionfrom non dominated set
