AbstractThis study was conducted to evaluate morphological trait under field conditions andsalt tolerance at germination stage of synthetic hexaploid wheat Nineteenmorphological traits comprising glume color auricle color flag leaf color hairy glume hairy auricle hairy flag leaf hairy node hairy peduncle days to heading days topollination days to maturity plant height flag leaf length and width glume length awnlength number of spike per plant number of grain per spike grain weight andgrain yield per plant were used Considerable diversity was observed for the traits insynthetic hexaploid wheat genotypes Grain yield per plant had the highest coefficientof variation and days to maturity had the lowest coefficient of variation Polymorphismwas observed for traits such as flag leaf color glume color auricle color hairy auricle hairy node and hairy glume There was a positive and significant correlation betweenplant height and glume length also between glume length and grain yield per plant Grain yield per plant and yield components was also correlated significantly Correlations between phonological traits such as days to heading and days topollination r as well as between days to maturity and days to pollination r were positive and significant The results of stepwise regression indicated thatnumber of grain per spike number of spikes per plant and grains weight couldexplained of variation of grain yield per plant Cluster analysis classified thegenotypes into three groups which group had the highest means for most of trait Toevaluate salt tolerance at germination stage in synthetic hexaploid wheat an experimentwas conducted using a factorial design based on a completely randomized design withfour replications At germination stage synthetic hexaploid wheat genotypes alongwith Roshan cultivar bread wheat and Altar cultivar durum wheat were usedas the first factor while the three salinity levels of and percent NaCl were thesecond factor The result of analysis of variance showed that salinity had significanteffect on all evaluated trait in this experiment where increasing salinity level lead to asignificant decrease in germination percentage germination rate index the number weight and length of roots and length and weight of shoots Also salinity genotypesinteraction for the studied traits were highly significant Correlation coefficientsbetween traits were positive and significan Among synthetic hexaploid wheat tested forsalinity tolerance at germination stage Ceta Ae squarrsoa and Srn Ae squarrsoa had the lowest and Altar Ae squarrosa Botno Ae squarrsoa and Botno Ae squarrsoa had the highest decrease in thetraits
