1 The Evaluation Of Internal Mechanical Behavior And Properties Of Plain Woven Fabrics Using Force Balance Method Masoumeh Valizadeh mvalizadeh@tx iut ac ir June 22 2008 Department of Textile EngineeringIsfahan University of technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranProf S A Hosseini Ravandi hoseinir@cc iut ac irProf M Salimi salami@cc iut acProf S ziaie Rad Prof M Sheikhzadeh AbstractInternal mechanical characteristics of woven fabrics have a great influence on the behavior ofdifferent types of fabrics even for apparel application with deformations like yarn running tearing and drape and other simple deformations or industrial fabrics undergoing fragmentimpact projectile penetration or other large deformations Frictional forces which are involvedin load transfer and energy absorption determine directly the magnitude of the interactionswithin the fabric As a physical study pullout test is a conventional and suitable method toinvestigate the effects of yarn properties and the structural characteristics of weave on fabricmechanical behavior The first part of this study is concerned with formulating an analytical model on yarn pulloutforce in plain woven fabrics The model can predict variations in the internal mechanicalparameters of woven fabrics based on a force balance analysis These parameters are yarn to yarn friction coefficient normal load at crossovers lateral forces lateral strain weave anglevariations and pullout force This part has been followed by investigation on an analytical modelwhich is called Oscillation Model represented to estimate the required pullout force of yarnpullout test for plain woven fabrics In second part of the study a numerical 3D modeling of yarn pullout test for plain woven fabricshas been introduced The main focuses of this part are the actualization of 3D fabric geometricalmodel anisotropic material properties and investigation on the validity of yarn and fabric finiteelement meso modeling using the experimental results The presented numerical models can beused to study different kind of deformation of fabric and yarns and to investigate themechanical parameters which can not be measured experimentally or are costly In both analytical and numerical modeling experimental investigations prove that therepresented models show an acceptable agreement toward the real mechanical behavior of fabric Key wordsPlain woven fabric yarn pullout test Friction Analytical Modeling Force Balance Model finiteelement 3D modeling Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of technology Department of Mechanic Engineering Isfahan University of technology
