AbstractToday most of the displays are used to show the full color video signals by CRT LCD PDP OLED andLED technologies Usually to manufacture inexpensive small displays with limited resolution the CRTtechnology is used To construct large and high resolution displays with dimensions up to 60 inches LCD andPDP technologies are used In recent years some progress has occurred in OLED technologies and it seems itwill challenge the others Another application of the displays is very large displays with various resolutions far apart from the viewers In this type of displays pixel sizes are bigger than normal displays and pixel pitchcan be as big as several centimeters Usually discrete LEDs are used to manufacture this type of displays Useof the big displays built by LEDs is increasing in recent years so a lot of attempts are made to build displayswith higher resolutions to make them more attractive As the resolution increases receiving transmitting anddistributing of data to pixels will become a very big challenge The challenge is very clear with respect to thebig amount of data and the short time needed to distribute these data especially in HDTV systems TFTcircuits are used to solve the problem in LCD PDP and OLED technologies But in big displays with discreteLEDs the TFT technology cannot be used so to have a better scheme of data distribution the display isdivided to smaller parts to decrease the amount of data for each part incidentally each part is scannedindependently According to the enormous number of used LEDs in these displays and the amount oftransmitted data numerous resources are needed to scan the whole pixels and the data distribution network isso expanded In this thesis different kinds of displays are reviewed with a special attention to the LED baseddisplays and an attempt is made to propose a new and efficient scheme to distribute data among the differentblocks of the display To make a more efficient distribution network LVDS signaling technology is used Finally a FPGA based system is suggested to implement a full color scanning system with high dimensionand HDTV resolution
