AbstractJAR is the standard for aerospace systems in which the security international regulations andlaws are indicated A section of this standard is related to the crash test of the helicopter occupant safety and helicopter structure strength The high cost of the experimental testsincreases the demand to the investigations and computer simulations in this field In this project a proper model developed to investigate the emergency landing situation inaccordance with the JAR standard Crash testing is performed on SHAHED278 civil helicopterfinite element model The FE model has been produced with FEMB and Ls PREPOSTpreprocessors solved with explicit FE LS DYNA code and post processed in the final stage Deformations structure fracture sequence of events and dynamic response of different parts ofthe structure have been predicted and compared with the real model Occupant safety is the mostimportant parameter specified in JAR standard After model validation the accelerations at thepilot seat position were calculated These accelerations were then inserted to a dummy model inorder to predict the occupant displacement and pilot risk of injury Finally the requirementspredicted by the JAR standard on this validated model have been investigated Key wordsLS DYNA Emergency Landing Impact Helicopter
