Abstract In this thesis the numerical simulation of nonlinear behavior of hyperelastic materials inlarge deflections using the well known finite element method is discussed Firstly themechanics of rubber and rubber like materials and the fundamentals of continuummechanics corresponding to the hyperelastic materials are presented Moreover the mostfamiliar models introduced in the litriture and used by hyperelasticity researchers arediscussed and their theories pros and cons are expressed Additionally the implementationprocedure for a new hyperelastic constitutive equation in ABAQUS software has beenpresented Since some hyperelastic models are available in this software the present thesisprovides the reader with the possibility of adding any kind of potential energy function to thematerial library of the software One of the hyperelastic energy function wich has beenrecently proposed by Attatrd has been selected and implemented in ABAQUS The resultsfor compressible and incompressible cases are in good agreement with those obtained fromtheory Subsequently the code is used to predict the response of an elastomer bushing Theresults are compared with experimental results and some other models available inABAQUS and a good agreement has been observed
