AbstractIn this research the effect of plasma nitriding and physical vapor deposition processes on thesurface quality of Ti 6Al 4V was studied During the plasma nitriding the samples weretreated at temperatures of 750oC 850oC and 950oC in a gas mixture of 74 9 H2 and 25 1 N2at pressure of 5mbar for a period of 20 hours The results indicate that the hardness androughness of the samples increase with increasing the temperature and temperature has adramatic effect on the formation of phases and their intensities At different temperaturesvarious amounts of nitrogen solid solution in titanium Ti2N and TiN phases were formed andthe maximum amount of TiN was obtained at 950oC In the coating process with physicalvapor deposition the samples were coated with two methods In the first method the sampleswere coated with conventional EB PVD at 500oC and in the second method with modifiedEB PVD at 500oC and 700oC The difference between these methods is the application of ionbombardment in the second method The growth behavior of these coatings was evaluatedwith respect to structure zone models The hardness of sample prepared in 700oC was muchhigher than the two other samples It was observed that the interface of this sample was in theform of zigzag while the other samples had flat and abrupt interfaces Furthermore withincreasing the temperature and applying the ion bombardment the relative texture waschanged from 111 to 200 planes pdfMachine A pdf writer that produces quality PDF files with ease Produce quality PDF files in seconds and preserve the integrity of your original documents Compatible across nearly all Windows platforms simply open the document you want to convert click print select the Broadgun pdfMachine printer and that s it Get yours now
