The study of vegetation cover of Kalahrud Region using ASTER data Shiva Sadeghi Email address shivasadeghi@na iut ac ir 11 3 2009 Department of natural resource Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Sayed Jamaledin Khajedin Email address Khajedin@cc iut ac irAbstractThe value and importance of vegetation cover as the living and biologic indicator forrecognition and knowledge of environmental revolutions make it necessary be studied byhuman being For resource management both natural and human resources it is necessary touse methods with suitable accuracy and benefit which can be get the goals with lower coststhan other methods For this reason the experts of natural resources are using digital imagesas their tools to study natural resources such as vegetation cover together with fieldmeasurement The aim of this study is to evaluate vegetation cover of Kalahrud region usingASTER sensor data The ASTER image of spring was used in this study The geometric stcorrection of the image was first done using nearest neighbor degree polynomial method The image pre process and process including FCC PCA image classification unsupervised supervised and hybrid was done The NDVI and principal component analysis were used toseparate different layers of vegetation cover based on an appropriate threshold The covermaps of land use classes of rock range lands orchards and agriculture and bare lands werethen derived and prepared The error matrix was used to estimate the accuracy of the maps The Kappa coefficient is by hybrid method In this study we applied indices toprepare vegetation cover percentage using the ratio of different bands of ASTER Theseindices were exported to SPSS environment based on the availability of digital information inorder for regression analysis and were used for different regression models such as stepwise forward and backward methods The correlation coefficient and standard error wereconsidered to select the appropriate model for each factor of the present study After selectingthe appropriate model for each factor the model was exercised on ASTER information toderive the vegetation cover percentage and then according to the range of image information
