AbstractPotato is one of the main agricultural crops in Iran and world In all over the world andespecially in Iran the main limiting factor for crop production is water Deficitirrigation is a suitable method for saving water reducing costs and increasing income To study the effects of different furrow irrigation methods on yield and water useefficiency WUE of potato a field experiment was conducted during summer 2007 inIsfahan Agricultural and Natural Resources Research Center Rezveh Station usingcompletely randomized blocks design with three replications Irrigation treatments wereirrigation after 75 100 and 120 cumulative evaporation from class A pan Theirrigation methods were ordinary furrow irrigation PRD every other furrow everyother furrow up to the middle of season every other furrow from the middle of seasonand furrow with two planting rows on the top of the furrows The results showed thatthe application efficiency of PRD 93 8 is higher than the ordinary furrow irrigation The effect of irrigation method on potato yield was significant p 0 01 The lowestyield 16 13 t ha was belonged to every other furrow up to the end of season and thehighest yield 24 47 t ha was belonged to every other furrow up to the middle ofseason The effect of irrigation water amount on yield was significant p 0 01 Thehighest yield 25 82 t ha and the lowest yield 13 84 t ha were belonged to theirrigation treatments of 120 and 75 respectively The effect of irrigation method onWUE was significant p 0 01 The highest WUE were belonged to every other furrowup to the middle of season 5 33 kg m3 and PRD 5 24 kg m3 and the lowest WUE wasbelonged to furrow irrigation with two planting rows 3 78 kg m3 The effect ofirrigation amount on WUE was significant p 0 01 The highest 4 68 kg m3 and thelowest 3 82 kg m3 WUE were belonged to the 100 and 75 irrigation treatments respectively The effect of irrigation method on percentage of tubers greater than 55 mmwas significant p 0 01 The highest amount of tubers larger than 55 mm 30 44 andthe lowest amount 16 38 were belonged to every other furrow irrigation up to themiddle of season and furrow irrigation with two planting rows respectively As theirrigation water increased the percentage of tubers larger than 55 mm increased
