A Fault Tolerant Adaptive Control Algorithm for Nonlinear Time Delayed Systems and its Application in Three Tank System Rahmat Heidari rheidari@ec iut ac ir Date of Submission April 29 2009 Department of Electrical and computer engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors Javad Askari j askari@cc iut ac ir Ali Khaki Sedigh sedigh@kntu ac irAbstract Due to increased requirements on the reliability and survivability of systems more controleffectors surfaces are being introduced Fault diagnosis has been becoming a significant topicespecially in the control of complex systems Fault occurrence in technical systems may lead toweak performance and product failure The goal is to detect faults as early as possible andprovide a timely warning A fault tolerant system is the one that can continue its operationwithout significant impact on performance in the presence of hardware and or software faults A new design scheme of a reconfigurable Fault Tolerant Control System based on the Laguerre based fault detection and diagnosis and Laguerre based model reference adaptive control isproposed in this project Here we have developed a Laguerre based fault tolerant controlapproach for a class of MIMO nonlinear time delayed systems based on the idea of aapproximation of systems via basis functions A fault detection and diagnosis FDD schemebased on Laguerre functions is studied for nonlinear multivariable systems subjected to inputtime delays Due to some fault diagnostic process problems using Laguerre coefficients ofresiduals as supplementary residuals is proposed The application of multivariable adaptivecontrol techniques to control reconfiguration is considered Model reference control usingLaguerre model is proposed and its stability is proved by SPR Lyapunov function Recursiveidentification techniques offer the ability to compute the coefficients of Laguerre Model of thesystem in real time Number of filters also plays an important role in the accuracy ofapproximation the more filters the better approximation A fault detection identification andreconfiguration FDIR control scheme based on Laguerre functions is developed for a dynamicmodel of the COSY benchmark three tank system as most of reconfiguration methods and faultdetection and diagnosis algorithms are tested using this system and it can be inferred fromsimulation results that the Laguerre based model reference adaptive control algorithm has robustperformance against parameter uncertainties Results are also compared to model referenceadaptive control method based on NARX model Key words Reconfigurable Fault Tolerant Control Systems Fault Detection and Diagnosis Laguerre Functions Laguerre Based Model Reference Adaptive Control
