Abstract Aluminium based MMCs have many applications in automotive military and aerospace industries due to their properties such as high strength good wear resistance low thermal expansion and resistance to oxidation A common Aluminium based MMCs manufacturing process is vortex casting In this process reinforcement is drawn to melt by created vortex and incorporated In this investigation aluminium particle alumina composite produced through vortex casting For this reason first alumina particles were coated with aluminium powder by a high energy planetary ball mill and then coated particles injected to molten of aluminium Al 1wt Mg This process led to increased particles of alumina in composite due to improve the wettability of the alumina particles in molten of aluminium the Results showed that improved wettability caused increased alumina particles in aluminium matrix up to 20 In the other hand aluminium coating could prevent from agglomeration of alumina particles and led to improved distribution of particles in matrix Evaluating of percentage size and distribution of alumina particles in composite samples were carried out by optical and scanning electron microscopy SEM Also the results showed increasing of stirring rate not only improved the homogenous distribution of the alumina particles but decreased the size of the particles to about 10 micron Hardness of composite samples with 20 reinforcement increased about 52 respect to pure aluminium and weight loss in wear test decreased about 47 Key words aluminium based MMCs vortex casting aluminium particle alumina composite ball milling wettability pdfMachine is a pdf writer that produces quality PDF files with ease Get yours now Thank you very much I can use Acrobat Distiller or the Acrobat PDFWriter but I consider your product a lot easier to use and much preferable to Adobe s A Sarras USA
