The Simulation of ECE R29 Crash Testing Regulation for Benz Truck 2624 Rooholah Mirzaamiri r mirzaamiri@me iut ac ir r mirzaamiri@yahoo com August 10 2009 Department of Mechanical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor M Esfahanian Assist Prof Email mesf1964@cc iut ac ir Abstract ONE of the most important concerns in the auto industry is the issue of safety therefore some of the international organizations and institutes has written some crashworthiness standards for autos Numerical simulation has been in the spot greatly by the automakers due to the enormous costs of real full scale tests In this study the numerical simulation of European standard ECE R29 for Benz 2624 comiunet which has been ordered by IRAN KHODRO complex is considered this standard contains three tests which are A Front contact test B Roof strength test C Rear wall strength test the steps for finite element modeling of a comiunet are Preparing 3D drawings by the use of CATIA SOLIDWORKS Fixing geometry disorders defeats Simplifying model geometry Meshing the model Defining element attributes properties Determining the material properties Applying boundary conditions and forces And finding output results All of the steps described above are done by preprocessor software HYPERMESH the Ls dyna s specified solver for crash is used to analyze the simulation also for a qualitative comparison of the results all of the tests are done for a validated model of Ford F800 the main results of tests including the deformation of the structure after any test are brought and compared After any test there should not occur any contact between the structure of the auto and the passenger of the car in this case the dummy HYBRID III 50 also the energy balance is brought for each test by some graphs In addition at the end of conclusion chapter the effect of the variations in some parameters on the results is considered and analyzed KeyWords Vehicle safety Crashworthiness Truck Simulation tests ECE R29 Finite element analysis LS DYNA
