161 Synthesis of Several Type of Nano Sized Zeolite Particle without Using Organic Structure Directing Agents and their Forming with and without Support to Make Zeolite Adsorbents Mazyar Sardari D 12 8 2009 Department of Chemical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi ahmad@cc iut ac irAhamd Moheb Supervisor Hossein Kazemian Supervisor hosseinkazemian@gmail comAbstract Gas adsorption on zeolites gains remarkable attention in this new area of technology since it hasindustrial importance in many process industries New technologies involving catalysis gas separation gas purification gas storage and high temperature gas sensor hold a great promise for industrialapplications In order to develop and design an efficient and economically feasible process it isimportant to understand the adsorption characteristics of gas on zeolites In this study different zeolites adsorbents were synthesized and modified for gas separation byadsorption For improvement of their properties as gas adsorbent some methods like nano materialsynthesis were used In this study because of damaging effect of removing structure directing agents from zeolite frameworklike reduction in crystallinity and make crystal defect and also the organic molecules that contribute upto 25 of the overall zeolite synthesis cost are completely degraded after calcinations zeolite either aspowder or layer synthesized without using these materials For adsorbent synthesis at fist fine powders of different zeolites were synthesized In the case of X LTL and LTA zeolite powders the particle size was less than 100 nanometers and for Y and ZSM 5was less than 2 microns The powders were used in both layers synthesizing and shaping In layerssynthesis powders were used as seed which after holding in synthesis condition in synthesis solutionwith different method they grown and form a layer on the support Powders and layers characterizedwith X Ray Diffraction XRD and Scanning Electron Microscopy SEM to identifying betterconditions and composition for each zeolite powder and layer In the case of shaping zeolite powderswere shaped by means of polyelectrolyte In this study we used Sodium Alginate as polyelectrolyte After calcinations zeolite adsorbent was prepared from zeolite fine powders SEM image show thatzeolite particles was sintered and because of large pore that exist in its structure it has suitable porosityand specific surface area For modifying adsorbent they were ion exchanged with Lithium Sodium Potassium magnesium andzinc cations Keywords Zeolite Nano particle Adsorbent Synthesis Layer synthesis Shaping
