Seismicity investigation and Seismic hazard analysis in low seismicity region Case Study of Naien zone Farzad Moradpouri f moradpouri@gmail com October 21th 2009 Department of Mining Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Dr N Fathianpour Dr M ZareAbstract Naien Zone is located between and which is one of the thlow seismicity region Few records of historical and 20 century earthquakes in CenteralIran Seismotectonic Province Tectonic and seismotectonic evidences and so active fault effects on quaternary depositsmention to a capable seismicity region maybe this feature low seismicity refer to thelong return period earthquakes or different sorts of releasing energy According to the text seismicity investigation risk hazard assessment on this region even with seismic gap isinevitable This research is going to do the seismicity investigation and probabilistic seismic hazardanalysis on Naien Zone The research has been conducted by two methods First method uses Tabas seismicity parameters In order to similar seismicity history the second onesynthetic catalog prepration base on Monte Carlo Simulation method Using the real andlimited earthquake records of Naien Zone and those statistic parameters In both methods peak groud acceleration has been calculated for different ranges ofmagnitude and attenuation relationships So the hazard curve related to each seismicsource totall hazard curve return period figure and probability of occurrence for thespecific period time related to all seismic sourses base on annual probability of exccdenceand hypothetical accelerations 0 05g 0 10g 0 60g 0 65g has been calculated anddrawn In continuation horizontal and vertical Isoacceleration maps have been drawn for 75 150 475 950 year return period by Zare Iran Alborz Centeral Iran 1999 Niazi Bozorgnia 1991 Mahdavian Ghodrati Manouchehri Dana 2005 Joyner Boore 1980 andAmbraseys 1990 attenuation relationships At last the levels of hazard have beensuggested for horizontal and vertical components of acceleration Key words Naien Seismicity Seismic hazard analysis Monte Carlo Return period Hazard curve Acceleration map
