Application of Various Nanostructures and Modifiers in the Preparation of Electrochemical Sensors for the Determination of Drugs Alkaloids and Environmental Species Sajjad Damiri E mail sajjad damiri@yahoo com February 9 2010 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology 84156 83111 Isfahan IranSupervisor Professor Behzad Rezaei E mail address rezaei@cc iut ac irAdvisor Professor Ali Asghar Ensafi Department Graduate Program Coordinator Professor Bijan Najafi Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology 84156 83111 Isfahan Iran Tel 98 311 3912351 Fax 98 311 3912350Abstract In this research it has been used various nanomaterials and nanostructures for themodification of conventional working electrodes to improve efficiency and sensitivity of theelectrochemical sensors In the first section the electrochemical behavior and determination ofsome drugs such as captopril hydrochlorothiazide amoxicillin the alkaloid of thebaine andRDX high explosive have been studied on a multi walled carbon nanotubes MWCNTs modified electrode by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS and adsorptive strippingvoltammetry techniques for the sensitive determination of compounds in the pharmaceutical human urine or other samples Here some sensitive simple and time saving voltammetricprocedures were developed for the analysis of mentioned analytes in the real samples Underoptimized conditions the detection limits of the above compounds are 0 20 M 0 77 nM 0 21 M 0 23 M and 25 0 nM respectively Also a nanocomposite based on the MWCNTs andcobalt hexacyanoferrate nanoparticles has been chemically synthesized and used for the selectivedetermination of diclofenac In the other section a new and simple approach based on acontinuous pulsed potential CPP method has been employed on then polycrystalline goldelectrodes for the preparation of a nanoporous thin film on its surface to enhance electrontransfer kinetics and sensitivity of the electrochemical reactions on the conventional goldelectrodes and the resulted pretreated electrode was used for the electrocatalytic determinationof metronidazole In continuing nanodendrites of silver as a new electrode material withinteresting electrocatalytic behavior were synthesized by electrodeposition processes usingPEG 400 polymer as a soft template Then the electrochemical behavior of these products was
