Study of Loop Shape Change due to Relaxation process of Weft Knitted Fabrics Using Image Processing Technique Hamid Reza Sanjari h sanjari@tx iut ac ir Date of Submission 2010 01 17 Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Dariush Semnani d semnani@cc iut ac ir Mohammad Sheikhzadeh m sh110@cc iut ac ir Abstract The main objective of this paper is to reach to the more advanced and suitable finishing treatmentson the dimensional properties and the regularity of weft knitted fabrics We also utilized image processingtechnique based on Radon transformation analysis to consider the twofold effect of different relaxationmethods on stitches shape and dimensional stability of two popular weft knitted structures Plain andInterlock We applied various mechanical chemical and complex mechanical chemical relaxation regimeson knitted fabrics to decrease fabric internal stress and make stitch shape closer to an ideal shape The rhythmof stitch shape enhancement during various relaxation processes was evaluated by measuring the deviation ofstitches direction angle to an ideal state on weft knitted fabrics produced from different yarn types The indexof fabric regularity was obtained from the deviation of stitches from the original direction of ideal regularfabric after any relaxation process by both conventional and image processing methods The average of fabricconstant dimensional parameters Ks and Us after ultrasonic chemical relaxation treatment is higher thanvalues reported by pervious workers Also fabric regularity index after this process is better than otherrelaxation method Therefore we propose the ultrasonic chemical relaxation treatment as a new relaxationmethod that it is more effective on knitted fabrics regularity and dimensional stability during usage Also theresults still supported the major effect of yarn type and fabric structure on fabric irregularity Keywords Dimensional Stability Surface Regularity Ultrasonic Chemical Relaxation Treatment Image Processing Technique Radon Transformation
