Isfahan University of Technology Department of Civil Engineering Wave Propagation in Thin and Moderately Thick Plate with Spectral Modal Method By Fatemeh Shirmohammadi Supervisor M M SaadatpourAbstractFor modelling mass extension and elasticity and achieving answers with acceptableaccuracy and high frequency vibration modes using methods like classic finite elementmethod and classic finite strip method using meshes with very small components isinevitable It is obvious that when elements get smaller the size of computations and errorsof rounding up the numbers would become significantly large which leads to consumptionof more time Therefore it seems necessary to develop a method for accurately analyzingelastic wave propagation in structures using meshes with larger components Spectralelement method is one of the effective ways for studying wave propagation problems thathas been seriously developed recently In the present study by using classic finite strip method spectral analysis method and dynamic stiffness method spectral modal method has been developed for studyingwave propagation in thin and moderately thick rectangular plates with constant andvariable thickness in transverse direction Also by using this method dynamic response ofthin and moderately thick plates subjected to moving loads have been modelled Using thismethod would significantly reduce the amount of needed time and cost for calculations asa result of using large component meshes The results have prepared as figures Keywords Spectral Modal Method Wave Propagation Dynamic of Plates Thin Plate Moderately Thick Plate
