Effect of Electron Beam Irradiation on Dry Matter and Crud ProteinDegradability of Soybean and Canola Meal and Performance of Lactating Holstein cows Majid Jafari Forooshani m jafari@ag iut ac ir March 10 2010 Department of Animal Science Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi G R Ghorbani Prof Supervisor ghorbani@cc iut ac irAbstractThis study was conducted to evaluate the effects of electron beam irradiation of soybeanmeal and canola meal on ruminal post ruminal and total tract digestibility s of drymatter and crude protein and to compare responses of performance and physiologicallactating dairy cows In in situ Trail four ruminally fistulated and one T shapedcannulated non lactating Holstein cows were used for in situ and mobile nylon bagtechniques Samples were incubated with rumen for 0 2 4 8 12 24 and 48 h then drymatter and crude protein degradation were estimated data to fitting disappearance bynonlinear equation Untreated and treated proteins bag residues were fractionated by gelelectrophoresis and densitometrical scanning There was no difference P 0 05 fordegradation characteristics and effective rumen degradability values of crude proteinbetween untreated and electron beam irradiated feedstuffs Beam electron irradiationincreased canola meal post ruminal crud protein digestibility SDS PAGE indicated thatin untreated soybean meal the subunit of conglycinin and two subunits of glycinin andirradiated soybean meal subunit of conglycinin and two subunits of glycinin inuntreated canola meal four subunits cruciferin and a subunits of napin and irradiatedcanola meal four subunits cruciferin and a subunits of napin make appreciablecontribution to metabolizable protein when are fed to ruminants In in vivo Trail toevaluate effect of electron beam irradiation of soy bean meal and canola meal onperformance and physiology of Holstein lactating cows In experiment with treatmentscontaining soy bean meal and canola meal nine lactating Holstein cows at 84 17 daysin milk were used to investigate production yield and total tract digestibility of soybeanmeal and canola meal This trail was in at 3 3 Latin square with three replicates with 21days periods Cows were fed with three rations control treatment without anyirradiation in meals soybean meal treatment with irradiated soybean meal and canolameal treatment with irradiated canola meal Rations were consist of concentration andhay in ratio 59 41 Dry matter intake in all rations were not different P 0 05 Asignificant reduction was observed in irradiated treatments rather than control treatmentin regards of dry matter organic matter and neutral detergent ber How re there was nosignificant different between two irradiation treatment including soybean meal andcanola meal rations Canola meal treatment cause to significant reduction in aciddetergent ber rather than control treatment while crude protein was decreasedsignificantly by soybean treatment in comparison to control treatment Fat protein andlactose contents of milk milk production and energy corrected milk were not different P 0 05 among treatments Rumen ammonia nitrogen propionate butyrate concentration and ruminal acidity were not significantly affected by treatments in thisexperiment P 0 05 In conclusion beam electron irradiation improved to canola
