Abstract Fish meal is one of the main sources of dietary protein used in rainbow trout diets but due to it is high cost and low production its replacement by plant protein sources is desirable One of the vegetable protein sources is canola meal This research was conducted to determine the effects of replacement of fish meal with Canola meal Rainbow trout fingerlings with an average initial weight of 15 2 2 34 g was fed for 8 weeks with diets containing five levels of Canola meal consists of 0 12 24 36 and 48 percent respectively replace 0 25 50 75 and 100 percent of fish meal in control diet The complete randomized design was used At the end of the experiment period growth parameters final weight weight gain food consumption rate feed conversion protein efficiency ratio and specific growth ratio carcass composition including protein fat moisture and ash and ammonia excretion rate NH 3 were measured The results showed that replacement of fish meal by the Canola meal up to 75 percent doesn t have any negative effects on fish growth performance P 0 05 But in higher than 75 percent replacement the growth performance was reduce Carcass composition of fish was affected by diet composition It is also revealed that replacement of fish meal by Canola meal reduces ammonia excretion by fish Overall results showed that the canola meal is a good potential for replacement to 75 percent of fish meal in the diet for rainbow trout is capable of functioning without negative effects on fish growth Since Canola meal is a cheap plant protein source it can be a good replacement of fish meal Key words rainbow trout canola meal fish meal growth parameters ammonia excretion
