Stability and gain Analysis for Switched Systems Moein Soodavi m soodavi@ec iut ac ir April 13 2010 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiF Sheikholeslam Assoc Prof Supervisor sheikh@cc iut ac irJ Ghaisari Assist Prof Supervisor ghaisari@cc iut ac irAbstract In the last two decades the importance of switched systems either in modeling systems or indesigning controllers has been growing Like other control systems the stability and 2 gain issueshave a special role in analysis of switched systems although the analysis for switched systems ismuch more complicated than the one for the other types of systems For example a switched systemmade of two stable subsystems can be unstable A part of the thesis is devoted to explainapplications of switched systems how to classify them and various behaviors that they can show Next stability and 2 gain are discussed for three main classes of switched systems that is arbitrary time dependent and state dependent switched systems The analysis of arbitrary switchedsystems is based on common Lyapunov function while the examination of time dependent andstate dependent types are done based on multiple Lyapunov functions The state dependentswitched systems play a particular role in designing switching algorithms which stabilize switchedsystems In another section of the thesis first the largest region function strategy as a commonmethod of stabilizing a switched system made of given subsystems is presented then the faults ofthe strategy are explained and finally a replaced algorithm to stabilize the switched system issuggested In addition using multiple Lyapunov functions a sufficient condition to compute the 2 gain of a state dependent switched system is introduced and proved Furtheremore a switchingalgorithm is introduced which is able to provide 2 stability for a switched system consisting givensubsystems Computing the Lyapunov functions for control systems has always been attracting Many publications on calculating Lyapunov functions for switched systems concern the linearswitched systems In order to compute Lyapunov functions for a special class of nonlinear switchedsystems by the use of a tool called sum of squares some theorems are introduced and proved Key Words switched systems stability 2 gain common Lyapunov function multipleLyapunov functions sum of squares tool
