92Synthesis and characterization of modified ormosil nanocatalyst with porphyrin and using it in oxidation of cumene Mohammad Lotfi mlotfi@ch iut ac ir 2010 12 04 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 iranDegree M Sc Language FarsiMehran ghiaci mghiaci@cc iut ac irAbstract A combination of environmental interest and chemist curiosity in regard to naturalphenomena lead us to biomimetic catalysts such as immobilized metalloporphyrins as cytochromeP 450 models and their potential for substrate oxidation Metalloporphyrins are well known fortheir ability to carry out a wide range of oxidation reactions in homogeneous systems The currenttrend in the research into catalysis by these compounds is to anchor the catalytically activemetalloporphyrin species on a solid support as it is expected that immobilization will facilitate thecatalyst recovery and reuse The central objective of this research is to carry out oxidation reaction of cumene andproduce acetophenone and cumyl alcohol as the main products using heterogeneous catalyst Thus this projects aims to design a heterogeneous catalyst based on the immobilization ofporphyrin on silica gel In order to do this the porphyrin containing steric functional group entitled5 10 15 20 tetrakis 4 methoxycarbonyl phenyl porphyrin was synthesized and immobilizedusing amidation reaction on modified silica gel containing amino functional group Ultimatelyimmobilized porphyrin was transformed into M III complex that M was Mn Fe and Co Differenttechniques such as UV Vis FT IR ICP and TEM were used for characterization of the catalystscalled SF ATPS M III TMCPP Eventually these catalysts were used for oxidation of cumene The products were acaetophenone and cumyl alcohol We optimized some various operationparameters such as temperature solvent and oxidant to raise the conversion percentage andselectivity of acetophenone and cumyl alcohol as the main products The conversion of cumeneand selectivity to acatophenone were maximum under temperature 80 C and acetonitrile assolvent We have selected t butylhydroproxide 80 TBH 80 as the best oxidant in theoxidation reaction of cumene In order to study the catalyst deactivation of the cumene oxidation we carried out this reaction several times with modified SF ATPS Mn III TMCPP Our datashowed that SF ATPA Mn III TMCPP was the active stable and selective catalyst for oxidationof cumene Finally these catalysts were used for oxidation of toluene o xylene and p xylene Itindicated Keywords Mn III porphyrin Fe III porphyrin Co III porphyrin cumene oxidation heterogeneouscatalyst
