Determine the Economic Order Quantity and Economic Production Quantity In the Three Echelon Supply Chain with Considering the Cost of Transportation Peyman bakhshinia p bakhshinia@in iut ac ir Date of Submission 2010 04 6 Department industrial Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor farimah mokhatab rafie farimah@cc iut ac ir Abstract In the recent two decades supply chain management has been considered by those people who involve in science and technology Market globalization increasing competition reducing the distance between products in terms of quality and performance forced academy and industry toward thinking of more efficient and effective management operations Since supply chain management looks at all companies and organizations that provide effective product to the customer as an integrated system in order to reduce cost and boost service level in providing product and customer service coordination between members is considered Previous researches on supply chain problem focused on the production scheduling in terms of order quantity Transportation costs is the most important part of the total operational cost considered as a portion of fixed ordering or setup cost This cost is computed independent of amount of goods that is way its effect is not considered in final decision In other existing models the transportation cost is considered as a linear function When this cost is considered as a discount function it is more consistent with reality but this leads to a complex structure In this research a three level supply chain problem with both single buyer and producer has been addressed The producer orders raw materials to a supplier and then performs manufacturing operation through this he transforms the raw materials into final products and delivers them to customer The current chain takes into account transportation cost as an overall discount function with and without pre announcement option Policy for shipment of lots is equal size policy A compound model of inventory control is introduced for minimizing summation of the following costs total cost per time unit of raw material order and their maintenance maintaining final product and its setup for production quantity of buyer s order and its maintenance cost of transporting raw material from supplier to producer and cost of transporting final products from manufacturer to buyer Afterward solving the problem based on a novel exact method is presented Considering transportation cost any assumptions about structure and policy of supply chain is not required and wide range of problems can be covered After solving and evaluating the model economic order quantity and optimal total cost are obtained Keywords Supply chain transportation cost discount
