Study of the Control Section and the Hydraulic Jump of Chutes with Rectangular and Triangular Sections on Different Slopes Ehsan Abrari e abrari@cv iut ac ir July 28 2010 Department of Civil Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Language Farsi Degree M Sc Supervisor Mohammad Karim Beirami Email Beirami@cc iut ac ir Abstract In this thesis the situation of the end depth in chute with different slopes and different discharges for rectangular and triangular channels were investigated respect to the critical depth Experimental results show that for the chute with constant slope by increasing the discharge ratio of the end depth and the critical depth decreased but there would be an increase in the distance between edge of chute and the site of critical section From the experimental data for the end depth in rectangular and triangular channels we have obtained the equation for proportion of the end depth and the critical depth Which is in agreement with the theoretical one Also by using these data we could find nonlinear function respect to Froude number and chute slope which has domination on the proportion of the end depth and the critical depth and also the proportion of the distance between end section and critical section to critical depth The proportion of the end depth and the critical depth for free overfall in triangular channel was equal to 0 72 and 0 73 Further more the hydraulic jump were investigated over the chute and in the stilling basin for rectangular and triangular channels with different slopes and different discharges Experimental results show that by increasing both of discharge and the slope of chute there would be an increase in the sequent depth of jump and the roller length The analytical relation which obtained for sequent depth in trapezoidal channel is an extended relation that we could obtain the sequent depth of hydraulic jump from it in rectangular and triangular channels In this thesis the analytical relation for sequent depth of B A and D hydraulic jump were investigated in the triangular channel Also by using the experimental data like roller length of triangular channel for obtaining this quantity with the lateral slope of 0 35 the relation between the average slope and the Froude number were calculated Keywords Hydraulic Jump Control Section Free Overfall Chute Sequent Depth Roller Length
