Influence of Vegetation Cover in Walls and Cobble over Bed with Different Concentrations on Turbulent Flow Components Abstract Waterways and rivers are very varied in nature and almost in all of them flow is turbulent and hydraulically rough also vegetation as a natural factor exists in these environments typically In general flow conditions in coarse beds are very complicated and the presence of vegetation increases this complexity by producing an additional turbulence In this research turbulent flow characteristics for different cobble concentrations in the bed and the presence of vegetation in the channel wall including velocity profiles location of maximum velocity inner boundary layer region outer boundary layer region Reynolds stress distribution turbulence intensity and turbulent kinetic energy were studied Experiments were carried out in an 8 m long 40 cm wide and 60 cm high re circulating flume at the Hydraulics Laboratory of agriculture faculty of Isfahan University of Technology using cobbles with median diameter 85 mm under uniform flow with zero bed slope Experiments were performed in two series in the first series channel walls were without vegetation and in the second series conditions were same as before but straws were placed in the channel walls Velocity profiles were taken in the reach that flow was fully developed these measurements in addition to the central axis of channel were performed in several distances of the wall Data of taken profiles by ADV using WinADV software were analyzed This study shows that the distribution pattern of turbulent flow characteristics by changing the cobble concentration in the bed remains constant but the values of these parameters in different relative depths alter In this way at higher concentrations velocity values
