Effect of Iron and Fe3O4 Magnetic Nanoparticles on the Chemiluminescence Enhancement of Luminol Diperiodatoargentate III System for Determination of cCysteine and Aminophylline Leila zarei Febuary 2011 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Lanquage Farsi Superviser Behzad Rezaei Email E mail rezaei@cc iut ac ir Abstract In the present work colloidal solutions of Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles MNPs coated by cyclodextrins CD as an inclusion complex and coated iron nanoparticles CINs was prepared and utilized as a catalyst for the chemiluminescence CL of luminol diperiodatoargentate III DPA in the presence of cysteine and aminophylline respectively The effect of CD based inclusion complexes of Fe3O4 MNPs and naked Fe3O4 MNPs on the luminol DPA CL system was investigated The result show that in the present of Fe3O4 MNPs not only causes the enhancement of CL signal of this system about two times but also reduces the time scale of the signal about 2 50 times It was suggested that DPA in the alkaline could be oxidized of cysteine to produce free radical on cysteine This cysteine free radical can exchange quickly with luminol to produce luminol free radicals Luminol free radical reacts with oxygen to give the proxy anion Then this proxy anion decomposes to electronically excited with loss of nitrogen and then contributes CL emission Fe3O4 MNPs may interact with the reactants or the intermediates of the reaction of luminol with DPA and also stabilization of the CL intermediate 3 aminophthalate by CD could enhance the CL emission Based on this phenomenon a rapid and sensitive CL system for the determination of cysteine was developed In the optimum condition the linear dynamic range for cysteine was 8 0 10 9 1 0 10 6 M and the detection limit was 2 8 10 9 M S N 3 The relative standard deviation for n 10 replicate cysteine determination of 1 0 10 7 M was obtained 3 5 In order to determination of aminophylline using coated iron nanoparticles as a novel nanocatalyst in the Luminol DPA CL system The result showed that CL reactions rate between luminol and DPA increased in the presence of coated iron nanoparticles about 2 times and enhanced CL signal of this system about eight times Regarding the CL mechanism of catalyzed luminol reaction with DPA in the presence of CINs it can be proposed that the luminol radical on the surface of iron nanoparticles as a substrate reaction is easily formed and also these CINs
