Selection of Mechanized Excavation and Segmental Lining for Sabzkouh Water Conveyance Tunnel to Choghakhor Dam Morteza Karami Morteza 1405@yahoo com Date of Submisson 2011 03 15 Department of Mining Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Lohrasb Faramarzi lfaramarzi@cc iut ac ir Supervisor Raheb Bagherpour bagherpour@cc iut ac ir Abstract The Sabzkouh water conveyance tunnel with approximately 11 Km length and Northern Southern trend is studying in order to transfer of 90 million cubic meters of water per year from Sabzkouh area to Choghakhor dam about 80 Km south of the town of Shahrekord in Chahar Mahal e Bakhtiari province This tunnel will provide required Water for agronomy and potable consumption of Broujen town by increase of Choghakhor dam s water level Main purposes of this thesis are choice of proper tunnel boring machine TBM for excavation of Sabzkouh water conveyance tunnel and determination of segmental lining of this tunnel With studying of Results of laboratory s tests and field observations rock masses of tunnel route have been categorized by major classification systems RMR Q and GSI and then geomechanical parameters of these rock masses have been estimated by prevalent empirical relations Finally three geotechnical zones with almost similar geological features and geomechanical parameters for rock masses of Sabzkouh tunnel route have been specified Proper TBM for excavation of Sabzkouh water conveyance tunnel have been choosen by consideration of geological features and geomechanical parameters of three geotechnical zones within tunnel route and studying of properties and application conditions of hard rock TBM s The tunnel boring machine should bore through the anticipated changing ground conditions and also should be capable of installing the segmental lining of the tunnel therefore double shield TBM is proposed With consideration of geomechanical properties of each zone and specifications of proposed TBM numerical analysis has been implemented based on continuum method by FLAC3D software High local groundwater flow into rock tunnels is a technical and environmental problem for underground constructions Geological features such as fault zones open fractures and dykes can be the source of very high local inflows Therefore each zone have been analyzed with dry and wet states For zones that have high hydrostatic water pressure these Analysis have been implemented by consideration of pre grouting zone in environment of tunnel and ahead of tunnel face Grouting is performed to provide adhesion between the precast concrete segments and the ground The assessment of the grouting quality by pull out tests and core sampling is destructive time consuming and expensive The ideas for the pre grouting are to reduce groundwater pressure as well as to consolidate the fractured zone in rock formations Because of high overburden and weak geomechanical properties of geotechnical zones within Sabzkouh tunnel route these zones are susceptible for squeezing phenomena Also it is important to accurately evaluate the load acting on a shield tunnel lining for the economical and rational design of shield tunnel lining Therefore considering of optimum overcut on cutter head of TBM is essential for restriction of ground and water loads on precast concrete segmental lining and avoidance of steel shield jamming and in all numerical analysis Percentage of required steel bars for reinforcement of tunnel s segmental lining have been determined by ACI 318 05 regulation After evaluation of numerical results thickness and percentage of required steel reinforcement of tunnel s concrete segmental lining have been specified optimally Keywords Sabzkouh water conveyance tunnel mechanized tunneling geomechanical parameters stability analysis hydrostatic pressure pre grouting segmental lining
