Spectrum Analysis of Targets in Multiple PRF Radars Based on the Compressive Sensing Theory Farnoosh Talaei f talaei@ec iut ac ir Date of Submission April 25 2011 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M S Language Persian Dr M Modarres Hashemi modarres@cc iut ac ir Dr S Sadri sadri@cc iut ac irAbstract Multiple PRF radars are categorized as a class of pulse radars These kinds of pulse radars could increasethe maximum unambiguous range and simultaneously maximum unambiguous Doppler frequency Since thetransmitted pulses are not uniform in these radars the samples of the received signal make a nonuniformsequence Therefore conventional FFT methods are not appropriate for spectrum analysis of the receivedsignal in multiple PRF radars There exist several techniques for spectrum analysis of the nonuniformlyspaced samples among which we can mention the polynomial interpolation methods the least square method the multi resolution method the Chinese remainder method and so on Some of these techniques need highsampling rates for spectrum reconstruction and some others do not show acceptable levels of performancewhen multiple targets and clutter signal exist Therefore they are not proper for application in multiple PRFradars In this thesis considering the characteristics of the received signal in multiple PRF radars this signalis modeled as a multi band sparse signal in the frequency domain Based on this model and the samplingpattern used in these radars we propose a new method for spectrum reconstruction of the received signal inthe multiple PRF radars which works based on the compressive sensing theory Compressive sensing is anew context in signal processing whose main idea is the simultaneous sampling and compression It makes itpossible to recover the signals in sampling rates which are lower than the Nyquist rate In the recent decade this theory has attracted a lot of attention and has been used greatly in different areas such as medical imageprocessing analog to digital convertors radar imaging wireless communication astronomical signalprocessing and so on According to the result of the current study the proposed algorithm shows acceptableperformance in presence of the white Gaussian noise the clutter signal and the multiple targets and willprecisely estimate the targets Doppler frequencies in low sampling rates Keywords Multiple PRF radar nonuniform sampling Compressive sensing Dopplerestimation
