Evaluation of Seismic Behavior of Precast Concrete Frames with Precast Concrete Shear Wall Majid Divan m divan@cv iut ac ir Date of Submission May 04 2011 Department of Civil Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors Dr Morteza Madhkhan Madhkhan@cc iut ac ir ABSTRACTConcrete is a kind of materials with knowing its properties and can be economically effective Noticeable increasing construction costs caused designers to think about ways to decrease these costsIncreasing population in recent decades has made the necessity of quick and low cost constructionunavoidable Meanwhile the use of prefabricated concrete frames with prefabricated concrete shearwalls due to better quality of performance and reduction of manufacturing time is a good option forpublic multiple floor buildings These structures in addition to resistance under earthquake forces havemore flexibility in methods of construction There is a little information about the exact behavior ofprefabricated concrete frames with shear walls under seismic and dynamic loads Hence many researchhave been done by various researchers on the seismic behavior of these structures in the form ofexperimental and analytical models Today the main section of the seismic design of buildings is donebased on equivalent static force method and calculating earthquake force of design from earthquakelinear spectrum by applying a reduction coefficient called behavior coefficient of structure that embracephilosophy of design So the necessity of determining behavior coefficient with respect to itsimportance in seismic design of structures seems essential The behavior coefficient of structure is acoefficient that includes inflexible function of structure and indicates strength and hidden ductility ofstructure in inflexible stageIn this study we obtained results from analysis firstly and compared them with laboratory samples andverified accuracy of them Focusing on three typical prefabricated concrete frames with prefabricatedshear walls 4 8 and 12 story buildings including 3 and 5 spans For this purpose the bays width isequal to 6 meters and the story height is equal to 3 2 meters The effects of two types of uniform andtriangular loading and two types of vertical and horizontal connections on behavior coefficient havebeen considered For determining behavior coefficient the method of nonlinear static push over analysis has been used On the whole the results have shown that by increasing the bays and buildingstories the structural behavior coefficient was increased The uniform and triangular lateral load havetriviality effect on the behavior coefficient By comparing the behavior coefficient obtained from thisstudy with the exhibit quantity in the seismic code 2800 and NEHRP 2003 showed that the behaviorcoefficient for the 4 and 8 story buildings have good coincidence with the code quantityAlso the modal push over analysis and dynamic time history analysis have been carried out on thestructures In modal pushover analysis the seismic demand due to individual terms in the modalexpansion of the effective earthquake forces is determined by a pushover analysis using the inertia forcedistribution for each mode Combining these modal demands due to the first two or three terms of theexpansion provides an estimate of the total seismic demand on inelastic systems The base shear and thedrift obtained from the uniform and triangular lateral loads and modal push over analysis and dynamictime history analysis was comparedKeywords Prefabricated Concrete Shear Wall Ductility Behavior Coefficient Push overAnalysis
