Application of Opposition Concept for Colonial Competitive Algorithm in the Continuous and Discrete Spaces Hamid Reza Lashgarian Azad h lashgarian@in iut ac ir Department of Industrial System Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors Nader Shetab Boushehri shetab@cc iut ac ir Naser Mollaverdi naserm@cc iut ac irAbstract Optimization algorithms inspired by nature as optimization intelligence methods alongsideclassical methods have shown good success Among these methods can be mentioned genetic algorithms ant colony optimization and simulated annealing Colonial Competitive Algorithm is a novel Meta heuristic algorithm which is inspired by socio politically phenomenon rather than a natural phenomenon In the short time of introducing this algorithm it has been used to solve the many problems in the field ofoptimization Optimal layout design for industrial units intelligence communication antenna intelligencesystems and optimal controller design for chemical industrial systems are few extensive application ofthis algorithm in solving optimization problems This algorithm particularly as the stage of human social political evolution is looked the colonization process and by mathematical modeling of this historicalphenomenon the algorithm uses as a powerful source of inspiration in the field of optimization Similarto other evolutionary algorithms that start with an initial population CCA begins with initial empires Any individual of an empire is called a country There are two type of countries colony and imperialiststate that collectively from empires Imperialistic competitions among these empires form the basis of theCCA During this competition weak empires collapse and powerful ones tale possession of their colonies Imperialistic competition coverage to a state in which there exists only one empire and its colonies are inthe same position and have the same cost as the imperialist In this study we try to improve theperformance of Colonial Competitive Algorithm in term of convergence accuracy and speed based onopposition concepts For the first time the concept of opposition based optimization in its earlier simpleform was introduced by Tizhoosh The main idea behind opposition concept is the simultaneousconsideration of an estimate and its corresponding opposite estimate in order to achieve a betterapproximation for the current candidate solutions As an advantage of opposite versus random points purely random re sampling or selection of solutions from a given population has a higher chance ofvisiting or even revisiting unproductive regions of the search space As you know finding the moreaccurate solution s in a shorter period of time for complex nonlinear problems is the main goal of alloptimization Meta heuristics and still widely open to search All of these fact encourage us to employ theopposition concept to accelerate optimization techniques Move towards optimal solution based onopposition improves the chance of achieving a better solution and provides a more efficient direction tothe algorithm Keywords 1 Colonial Competitive Algorithm 2 Opposition Based Optimization 3 Opposite Point
