Effects of Six Rootstocks on Leaf and Fruit Mineral Content Vegetative Growth and Fruit Quality of Quince Cydonia oblonga Trees Jafar Shamsi Shamsj57@yahoo com 1 june 2011 Department of Horticultural Science Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 8415683111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Assist Prof B Baninasab bbanin @cc iut ac irAbstract The use of rootstocks can have important effect on the absorption of mineral treeperformance and fruit quality Therfore a research was conducted at Kabotarabad ResearchStation in Isfahan to investigation of six different rootstocks i e QA QB QC PQBA29 Quince and Hawthorn on vegetative growth mineral content of leaf and fruit and fruit quality of Isfahan quince scion cultivar This experiment was designed as arandomized complete block with six rootstocks three replications and two trees perreplicatin Result showed that significant difference among rootstocks for most of the traitsmeasured The most and least relative chlorophyll content was seen in QB and QC respectively Isfahan quince grafted on QB had the lowest current shoot length than atherrootstocks The highest tree height was observed in the QC rootstock which was 18 higher than in the Hawthorn rootstock shortest height The most amount of shank budunion and trunk diameter were observed in Quince rootstock The largest and smallestfruit was seen in Hawthorn and QA respectively Length to diameter ratio of the fruitwas not affected by rootstocks Result showed that fruit firmness was affected by therootstock and the most and lowest fruit firmness was observed in the QA and Hawthorn respectively The highest fruit titratable acid was obtained from QC rootstock than otherrootstocks Total soluble solid was not affected by rootstocks Results showed thatsignificant differences among rootstocks for leaf phosphorus P potassium K calcium Ca magnesium Mg iron Fe copper Cu manganese Mn and sodium Na and fruitP K Ca Fe Cu and Na However leaf nitrogen N and zinc Zn and fruit N Mg Znand Mn were not affected by the rootstock The most amount of Ca Mg Cu and Zn and thelowest amount of leaf Na and K were observed in trres grafted on QC rootstock Isfahanquince grafted on QB had highest Fe and K concentration in their leaves than otherrootstocks The rootstock Hawthorn took up most leaf K and Mn and least leaf Fe and Mgthan other rootstocks Isfahan quince growing on Hawthorn had highest fruit P and Kconcentration than other rootstocks Based on the results it was found out that QCrootstock had highest nutrient uptake efficiency Hawthorn rootstock produced thesmallest tree KeyWords Fruit Quality Growth Mineral Element Rootstock Quince
