Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology 84156 83111 Isfahan IranSupervisor Professor Mehran Ghiaci E Mail address mghiaci@cc iut ac irAdvisor Professor Shadpoor Mallakpour Advisor Professor Ali A Ensafi Department Graduate Program Coordinator Professor Bijan Najafi Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Tel 98 311 3912369 Fax 98 311 3912350Abstract This project is divided to two main parts In the first part cerium oxide CeO2 Ru Ce Co Ce andRu Co Ce mixed oxides and trimetallic hybrid nano mixed oxide Ru Co Ce was synthesized The sampleswere investigated with XRD XPS BET and TEM techniques In the next step the catalytic activity ofsynthesized samples was tested in cyclohexene oxidation reaction by t butyl hydroperoxide as an oxidant The best conversion and selectivity toward 2 cyclohexeneone was achieved when trimetallic hybrid nano mixed oxide Ru Co Ce was used as the catalyst In order to obtain maximum conversion and selectivity thereaction parameters like reaction temperature oxidant molar ratio amount of catalyst solvent and time were optimized Also the catalytic activity of nanoparticles was investigated in para xylene oxidation bymolecular oxygen as an oxidant The trimetallic hybrid nano mixed oxide Ru Co Ce exhibited higheractivity and selectivity in oxidation of para xylene than the other catalysts Furthermore the reactionparameters such as reaction temperature molar ratio amount of the catalyst and reaction time were studied In the second part new hybrid of chitosan derivative Carbon black was synthesized as a support forPlatinum nanoparticles A new chitosan derivative was synthesized in two steps and characterized by FT IR 13 C CP MAS NMR 15N CP MAS NMR and CHNS techniques Then hybrids chitosan derivative carbonblack were synthesized by two different methods SEM XPS and CHNS techniques were employed for theircharacterization In final step the platinum nanoparticles were prepared on the surface of hybrid samples assupport by chemical reduction method and characterized by XRD XPS BET ICP and TEM techniques Inthe next step the catalytic activity of samples was investigated by CO stripping reaction and methanol electrooxidation reaction The results showed that the catalyst with more nanoparticle aggregation is more COtolerant Keywords Nanoparticles Nanocomposite Hybrid Chitosan derivative Carbon black nanoparticleaggregation CO stripping methanol electro oxidation reaction Fuel cell
