Effect of Geometrical Parameters of Fractures in Dimensional Stone Mining in Exploration Stage Milad Jirsaraei Mr mi ji@yahoo com Department of Mining Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan IranDegree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Raheb Bagherpour E mail Bagherpour@cc iut ac irAbstract Facing with joints faults fractures and discontinuous surfaces is an inevitable issue inexploitation of the dimensional stone mines The increase in their concentraction have a greatimpact on their mining operation Therefore without a comprehensive realization ofdiscontinious surfaces these would a considerable increase in waste production Themarketable portion of the dimentional stone deposite are the blocks that not only have goodquality but also froms mass with acceptable dimentions The wastes in such mines are due tothese natural breaks in the rocks and in spite of existance of these criteria whole operationdoes not yield acceptable revenue Lack of athention this issue and studing the discontinutieshas resulted in waste production which ends in lower profit and environmental disasters Someresearches are directed towards dimentional stone reserve estimation but they have onlyconsidered regular and limited fractures Additionaly they have not studied the operatingphase This research is aimed to evaluate the effects of both of the fractures and operatingphase orientation in order to minimize the waste and increase the efficiency of the miningoperation In this research based on the geometrical properties of fractures the marketableamount of the deposite to be calculated and waste production to be minimited by miningmethods For this purpose first joints and fractures are generated randomly and then volumeof the blocks between the fractures are calculated Key words Discontinuous Surfaces Dimensional Stones Waste Marketable Blocks
