152 Multiobjective Planning of Distributed Generation Considering Load Model Effect Yousof Saeedi y saidi@ec iut ac ir Date of Submission 2011 11 01 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Mohammad Esmail Hamedani Golshan hgolshan@cc iut ac irAbstractIn most studies carried out for implementation of distributed generation DG resources determination ofoptimal place and size of DG is necessary These two parameters are optimized based on technical andeconomical constraints Thus DG planning leads to solve an optimization problem with given objectivefunctions and constraints These constraints are affected by specific conditions of distribution systems andlegal limitations of DG installation So each one formulizes optimal DG planning based on its ownrequirements In this thesis to achieve optimal DG planning a multi objective problem is defined Theobjective functions include the cost functions and the system performance functions Due to the differentnature of the objective functions an innovative method based on the Pareto principle is used to solve theproblem In this method objective function is either DG capacity or DG cost DG cost includes investment operation and maintenance costs in the planning horizon This objective function is appropriate for utilitycompanies which invest in DGs themselves Even if the investment is made by investors outside thecompany the utility companies plan to reduce the costs imposed by DG installation and improve the systemperformance indices The amount of loss reduction is specified and considered as a constraint of planningproblem so that several scenarios with different amount of loss reduction can be defined Finally the decisionmaker selects the best solution by comparing the results of these scenarios In addition to the total amount oflosses several other performance indices are calculated for each solution and decision maker can choose thefinal decision based on the different requirements These requirements can be any of the performance indices location and size of DGs In addition to the real power losses other performance indices considered in thisplanning are 1 reactive power losses which reflect the voltage stability of the system 2 Voltage deviationof buses from voltage of main system substation bus 3 Level of MVA flows currents through the networkregarding the maximum capacity of conductors 4 The intake real power from the upstream network whichshows the demand of the distribution system from fossil intensive powerhouses 5 The intake reactive powerwhich shows the stress that imposed to the upstream network by the distribution system Furthermore acomprehensive study on the effect of load models on DG planning in the distribution system is carried out Also the effect of constant power loads and actual loads i e voltage dependent loads on the results isinvestigated It is demonstrated that load models affect the location and size of DG and performance indices The planning problem is solved by using particle swarm optimization PSO and tested on well known 33bus and 69 bus systems Keywords DG Planning Load Model DG Cost PSO
