Shear Torsion Strengthening of RC Beams using FRP Laminates Sayed Behzad Talaeitaba talaeitaba@cv iut ac ir Jan 09 2012 Department of Civil Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranD Mostofinejad dmostofi@cc iut ac irM Azhari A KabiriAbstractExternally bonded Fiber Reinforce Polymer FRP composites have been widely accepted aseasy to use materials with special properties for shear torsional strengthening of ReinforcedConcrete RC beams Several researches and guidelines have been provided to calculate theshear or torsional capacity of strengthened beams however in almost all the practical cases beams are under combined shear and torsion The aim of the current study is to provideshear torsion interaction curves for RC beams strengthened with externally bonded CFRPstirrups For this purpose 14 full scale concrete beams were constructed and classified in 3groups The first group included 5 control beams without external reinforcement while thesecond and third group included 5 and 4 strengthened beams respectively All the beamswere tested under the same conditions with flexural and torsional fixed support system Theexperimental variable was the load eccentricities which were different for the beams andvaried from zero for pure shear to infinity for pure torsion Results showed linear shear torsion interaction diagrams for both strengthened and control beams Key words shear torsion interaction curve reinforced concrete beam combined shear andtorsion FRP composites strengthening Supervisor Advisor
