Determination of Mass and Width of 1405 by Resonant Absorption of Stopped K on 4 He 3He and d and Investigation of K pp System by Faddeev Method Jafar Esmaili jesmaili@ph iut ac ir February 15 2012 Department of Physics Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranSeyed Zafarollah Kalantari supervisor zafar@cc iut ac irAhmad Shirani advisor shirani@cc iut ac irF Loran advisor loran@cc iut ac irAbstract In this thesis to solve the current debate on the position of the quasi bound K p state namely 1405 or 1420 we have used stopped K absorption data on 4He The invariant massspectra in the resonant capture of K at rest in 4He 3He and d are calculated by a coupled channelprocedure for a K p quasi bound state of an arbitrary chosen mass M and width A 2 analysis ofold 4He bubble chamber data shows a dominance of the s orbit absorption and yielded 24 4 MeV where a possible population of 1405 5 1 4 MeV c 2 and 1 0 1385 and also a smallM 3 p orbit capture contribution are taken into account This result confirms the 1405 ansatz whereasrecent chiral SU 3 predictions M 1420 MeV c2 are excluded A more stringent test by using a 3Hetarget is proposed Also we propose to measure the T21 T6S m K N invariant mass spectrum in stopped K absorption in the deuteron since the spectrum reflecting the soft and hard deuteron momentumdistribution is expected to have a narrow quasi free component with an upper edge of M 1430 MeV c2 followed by a significant high momentum tail toward the lower mass region where a resonantformation of 1405 of any mass and width in a wide range will be clearly revealed We introduce a deviation spectrum as defined by DEV OBS observed or calculated QF nonresonant quasi free inwhich the resonant component can be seen as an isolated peak free from the QF shape Also in this thesis coupled channels Faddeev Yacubovsky as well as AGS calculations of three 1body J S 0 K NN I 1 I quasi bound state in the K NN S6N system were performed in 2momentum space and the dependence of the three body energy on the two body K N S6 interactionwas investigated Key Words 1405 kaonic nuclei Deeply bound Kaonic Nuclear states Deviation spectrum K pp Faddeev calculation pole state decaying state Department of Physics Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran
